I began my career with Delta Air Lines in 1967 in Indianapolis, Indiana. I moved to Pinellas County in 1969 where I continued with Delta in Tampa as a reservation sales agent. Other jobs I had were a Convention Sales Agent, Administrative Assistant of Operations, Special Member Services, and a Supervisor for 17 years before retiring in 2003. I enjoy traveling, reading, and cooking. |

Here's an excerpt from my resume: Susan Karnovskyís writing experience includes 25+ years of editing and writing chidlrensí books, TVscripts, video, theatre, radio, and CD-ROM's for Nickelodeon, Disney, Warner Brothers and Time-Warner and for Children's Television Workshop (producers of Sesame Street), where she was on staff for five years as an editor of ìThe Electric Companyî Magazine. Susan has written childrenís text and trade books for Scholastics, Grolier, Macmillan, Doubleday, Random House, Troll and other well known publishers. She was a contributing editor for the national award winning Magazine "Converge." Where she contributed hundreds of interviews and articles focusing on state-of-the-art educational technology. During this time she created a men- toring service called ìThe Writerís Factory,î which offered an on-line workshop to new writers called ìPublication with a Byline.î Other non-fiction publishing credits include special advertorial magazines for Gateway computer, and magazm to ine articles for Time-Warner's "Money", "Sports Illustrated for Kids", and "Money for Kids." She specializes in interactive game design that involves the readers and gets them to participate. As a lyricist Susan collaborated on musical projects with Academy award winning composer Alan Menken, and jazz composer Chris Brubeck. Her childrenís musicals have been performed in NYC, on teleiviosn and in theatres around the country. Susan is also a professional singer/improvisor who performed on and off Broadway in NY. She has conducted theatre games workshops in NY, LA and around the country. She created and performed in her own nationally syndicated segments "Susan's Songs" for American Public Radio's "Show Kids America", which won the George Peabody award. Susan has taught ìHow to Write and Publish Childrenís Booksî at the University of South Florida, and has taught improvisational workshops in theatres and schools around the country, including Pratt Insititute in NY, Boys Harbor, N Y, the First All Childrens Theatre, NY, and at The American Stage Theatre in St. Petersburg, Florida. |

Park Horticulturist, Pinellas County Parks Department is a county government agency that operates county parks designed to provide visitors with passive relaxation and nature enjoyment opportunities The department maintains 23 park properties encompassing 3,948 acres and 47 miles of biking train known as the Pinellas Trail. Pinellas County Parks Department has approximately 260 employees. Training/Education Has a Bachelor of Science in Botany and a Landscape Operations Horticulture degree. Holds certification as a Pest Control Operator, Restricted Use Pesticide Licensing, and OSHA HazWoper. I have spent 17 years in education as a science teacher, computer technology teacher,grant writer, project manager, and currently serve as the Director of Advanced Studies and Academic Excellence. I have taught elementary, middle and high school science, biology, physical science, chemistry, and geometry, as well as computer applications and have served as a school based technology coordinator and computer network administrator. My educational background includes a bachelors degree in zoology and a masters degree in educational leadership. My undergraduate studies included in a interdisciplinary program in neuroscience and I attended medical school after graduation for two years. Currently, I oversee the Advanced Placement program and serve as the district delegate to the College Board. I am also responsible for articulating with St. Petersburg College for Dual Enrollment programs and assisting more students in accessing the most rigorous courses to prepare them for college and career success. I am interested in meteorology,environmental science, space science, and technology. |
